I am a bookworm. There is no doubt about it. How could I not be? English Major and a Masters in Biblical Studies. Love of books was an understood prerequisite.
While I do believe that many books should have a recommended reading age (based on maturity not ability), I do not believe that books should be banned. In fact, a number of my favorite books I was surprised had made the most banned list.
To celebrate the month of October our family took a break from the semester reading list and started a new tradition. Every year we will be reading one of the Harry Potter books in October. I can’t wait to torture my kids with the wait the way J.K.Rowlings tortured me.
October 12-18, 2014 is Teen Read Week. I don’t know about you but I love YA Lit. In fact here are a few of my favorites:
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
(Really I love all of them but you have to start at the beginning) - The Giver
- Number the Stars

- The Catcher in the Rye

- Jacob Have I Loved

- The Hunger Games Trilogy Box Set

- A Wrinkle in Time

- Bridge to Terabithia
The Drowning of Stephan Jones

Of course my fun geeky family couldn’t just start off Teen Read Week with a few extra chapters. We had to celebrate. Here are a few pics from our trek across the galaxy to Barnes ‘N Noble.
I don’t just love to read, I also love to write. October may be all about reading but November is all about writing. If you are a writer it is not to early to start thinking about the Nano Writing Challenge.
Absolutely love to read! I’m not sure I have a favorite YA book, but the most recent series I enjoyed was Divergent. The movie was pretty decent, as well.
Thinking about doing #Nano this year! I’ve got an idea (or two) for a novel but not sure I’m able to write it. Guess there’s only one way to know, right?
