Banned Books Week

It’s no secret I love books. So, in honor of banned books week I’m pulling out my favorite, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, dusting it off and sitting down with a big cup of coffee. It is the one book in my collection I have read over a dozen times. Come to think of it, there probably isn’t any dust on it. I was surprised to find that it was number 50 of the Banned & Challenged Classics.

I do believe I just found my next reading list.

I’m not one who often enjoys rereading a book but some of my favorites are on the list: Sophie’s Choice, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Lord of the Rings. Perhaps it’s time to revisit a few old friends.

What banned book are you reading this week? Let us know why you love them in the comments below.

  1. I read, and loved The Great Gatsby! A lot of the books on the banned list are ones that I have read in middle and high school…it’s so crazy that they are banned now.

  2. I loved “Alice in Wonderland” and “A Wrinkle in Time” (read both when I was a kid and was sad to see them on the banned book list). I’m also a big fan of Shakespeare and I know searvel of his plays were banned at certain points (including one of my favs “The Merchant of Venice”). Two more banned “classic” books that I enjoyed when I read them in high school were “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “1984”.
