And It Was Beautiful: Celebrating Life in the Midst of the Long Good-Bye

Kara Tippetts had a beautiful way of opening her heart to strangers. She continues to do so through the words she left behind. And It Was Beautiful is a journey of coming to terms with what it means to leave behind those she loves the most. Not long ago I had the opportunity to review a book she co-wrote with a friend, ot long ago I had the opportunity to review a book she co-wrote with a friend, Just Show Up. As I read the pages of this new book, her last book, my mind kept drifting to the delicate dance described in Just Show Up. Giving is difficult when we know that we can not protect our heart from suffering. But life is beautiful because of the mess. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to peek into the life of Kara Tippetts and see her heart for those she loved. Briefly, through the pages, I felt like a part of her community.

And It Was Beautiful- Comfort in Grief

I did not want this book to end because I knew the goodbye lay on the last page.

I found beauty in death through this book. I found pages of comfort when staring into the unknown. I found compassion in the midst of someone’s suffering. And I am thankful to have had the opportunity to know Kara even if it was only through the pages of her books and the soft glow from her blog posts.

If you or someone you know is in the midst of a long goodbye I encourage you to pick up And It Was Beautiful. Even more so, follow Kara’s lead and share your story. Every story matters, every journey counts, suffering can not silence our stories.
