The tagline on the CSB (in)courage Bible website is “real life is messy: the CSB (in)courage Devotional Bible helps you find God in the midst of it.” It’s a beautiful thought, and one I found true as I flipped through the pages of this study Bible.
I was sent this Bible to review during a rather messy time in our life. Messy mentally, physically and well literally. It came to me in the midst of boxes and movers packing up our home. It came to me in the middle of trauma as we gave safe haven to two young boys who lives were being flipped upside down. It came in the midst of the final confusing days of my husband’s medical retirement. And it was a welcome comfort in the storm.
*In fact, this is one of those times life is so messy that I am thankful this Bible miraculous was left unpacked. Unfortunately, the David C. Cook Devotional Series FrontGate also asked me to review was packed. I have yet to find those three small books, they are hiding somewhere at the bottom of one of 15 boxes of books.
What I Love About The (in)courage Bible
- The (in)courage Bible highlights a total of 50 women in Scripture and how God showed up in their lives. Below is an example of what these profiles look like. Female characters, like midwives, that are often overlooked in texts are brought to the forefront. They even include Huldah, a woman I had overlooked until I read Vindicating the Vixens (another great book you should add to your library).
- There is a total of 312 devotions written by all women sharing stories of how God has worked in their lives today.
- Detailed reading plans are shared in the back of the Bible to help readers as they begin to spend time daily studying God’s word and how it applies to their lives today.
- At the beginning of the (in)courage Bible is a commitment page. As I begin my new journey in Florida in the world of civilians and veterans I look forward to writing down the names of woman I meet. I look forward to building a community where we walk with one another in faith, building up and encouraging one another. I wrote the date of our move in my Bible as day one of this new commitment and I eagerly await the chance to fill this page with new names.
