This Children’s Sermon was presented at Grace Presbyterian Church with the reading from Psalms 34:17-18. It would also go well with the story of Hagar, the woman who named God. We are never left alone. God is listening, God hears us when we cry out.
17 Is anyone crying for help? God is listening,
ready to rescue you.18 If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there;
if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.Psalms 34:17-18 The Message (MSG)
God is Listening
Have you ever had a no good, terrible bad day?
What did you do about it?
Did you know that no matter how bad your day is, or your week, or your year… no matter how difficult things might get that God is right there? God can hear you. All you have to do is cry for help, tell God what you are going through. Be honest about your feelings because God never leaves you alone.
Sometimes the people we love leave us. Sometimes we have to leave the people we love but you know what, God never leaves. The Bible says that nothing can separate us from God’s love. Nothing.
There’s a poem I heard when I was a kid, and maybe you’ve heard it too.

It goes like this:
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.
This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.
The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.
Ending Prayer:
God thank you for always being with me. Help me to remember that when my heart is broken or I am hurting that I can talk to you and you will hear me. Thank you for loving us. Amen
