Since launching my site I have had a number of requests to help others create sites of their own. While I wish I had the time to sit down with each and every one of you, I do not. So I thought I would give a short description of the tools I have used to create this site. I hope you find it helpful. Feel free to ask questions in the comments section.
While there are free hosted blog sites like wordpress.com and blogger.com having a self-hosted WordPress allows for more control and the opportunity to monetize your site. Since I wanted to have control over the layout and the ads offered I chose the self-hosted version of WordPress. The first time I realized the need to control what ads are displayed was when McDonald’s Ads began popping up on my post A little about me, a confession and a pledge to do better. I don’t even want to know what was popping up on Does Porn and Chocolate really have anything in common? You get the idea.
So I set out to create a blog that offered more control over layout as well as content thereby being able to serve you better.
Step #1
I signed up with Bluehost. Why?
Blue host is one of the largest and most respected web hosting providers in the world, recommended by WordPress.org since 2005, and is 100% US-based. You can install as many websites and manage as many domains as they like. Scripts, themes, and plugins are easy to install with one click. Help is available anytime, 24/7 via phone, chat and email. My questions have thus far have been answered immediately. In addition there are training videos to help you build a website. Just follow along with the videos and you will have a site up and running in no time. Bluehost has a state-of-the-art data center which is fully redundant and features uninterrupted power supplies and generator systems. Plus if you don’t like it they offer a 30-day money back guarantee.
So here are my reasons broken down: Reliability, WordPress Recommended, Easy to Use, No limits on pages, and Affordable.
CLICK HERE TO SIGNUP FOR BLUEHOST.COM -$4.95-$6.95 a month depending on length of commitment
Hosting terms are billed up front, however there is a money-back guarantee, which gives you the freedom to cancel at ANY TIME for a prorated refund.
Step #2
Register your domain name. This is easy through Bluehost . Every new account (12mo. term or longer) comes with a free, one-year domain registration coupon that can be redeemed at any time. If you have already purchased a domain through another site (like GoDaddy) there are simple on screen instructions on how to transfer it over.
Step #3
Install WordPress. Once you are in Bluehost scroll down to Website Builders and click onto WordPress. It’s that simple. Click START on the Install WordPress page and select the domain name you just created for your page. You will get an error message that reads “Oops. Looks like something already exists there. I understand that continuing will overwrite the files.” Since this is a brand new site there is nothing to actually overwrite so select the checkbox that says, “Directory Exists! I understand that continuing will overwrite files.” Now if you are using a domain name that you have a website up and running on and you do not want to overwrite it then DO NOT click this button.
Step #4
Create your site! Log into WordPress, go to the MOJO Marketplace and choose a theme! Write, write, write! It’s time to post. Get your content out there and start driving traffic to your site.
Step #5
Start monetizing your site. I use ShareASale to find relevant businesses to share with you. (You can see some of them in the sidebar to the right). Click on the banner below and fill out the form to become an affiliate. It’s that simple.
