Theo: Teaching Children God’s Word (A Review and Giveaway)

When the kids and I first started out our home school adventure we set out a few rules.

We started out great! Our dining room alternated between a science lab and a craft store. We picked up a great book that walked us through a new Bible Story synopsis daily. It was perfect for a 1st grader, Kindergartner, and toddler. 5 minutes top, complete with application and questions. But once we completed it finding curriculum that built on, added a deeper understanding of God’s Word, challenged the kids, and held true to rule #4 became difficult.

We got stuck in the beauty of Psalms and the simple wisdom of Proverbs. We reread Jonah hundreds of times. And we were not consistent.

I received a free copy of Theo: Teaching Children God's Word - God's Truth DVD from Family Christian in exchange for my honest review. When Family Christian sent me a copy of Theo: Teaching Children God's Word - God's Truth I was excited to check it out. I popped some popcorn and settled into the couch with my two youngest, expecting a Veggie Tale like adventure. This isn’t a popcorn movie. It is the perfect curriculum to reinstate daily Bible time into our school day.

God’s Truth is Volume 4 of the Theo series and has lessons 11- Abiding in Christ, 12-Light Unto My Path, and 13-What is the Church?It comes with a Parent Guide. Each lesson has Scripture references listed that you can look up with your child, discussion questions, a group/family activity, final thoughts to share with your kids, and a closing prayer. There is also a Nightly Devotional section that gives 6 entries to continue the discussion for a week.

The animation is beautifully done. The stories are well told. It speaks to the curiosity of the child and challenges them to think through meanings and applications.

I am excited to incorporate Theo into our 2015 Spring Semester Curriculum and I’m looking forward to using it to enrich our church’s Children’s Ministry. It’s a great tool to equip parents who may not otherwise be comfortable with beginning a family devotional time. It is simple to implement and intellectually challenging at the same time.
