Checkmate: The Bowers Files (Bowers Files #7)
It’s in the struggle of depravity that allows Agent Bowers (main character) to confront his own thoughts on God and life. It is in Bowers conflict of how to save lives and still maintain his personal integrity, paired with the stark contrast of others who fail to do so, that allows the author to delve into the justice and goodness of God.
I was hooked from page one. I took this book with me everywhere. Doctors office, while homeschooling, while waiting for the kids at gymnastics. This is not a book you can pick up, put down, and come back to a week later. Make sure you have time before you pick it up.
My only regret is that I started with book #7, the final chapter in The Bowers Files.
Even though I missed book 1-6 I never felt lost. Steven James does an amazing job of keeping you in the story, adding just enough back story in case you’ve forgotten or are just jumping in. So now I have 6 more books to add to my Christmas Wish List. If you have someone on your Christmas list who enjoys thrillers, I highly recommend this book.

This sounds like an interesting series, and I am always interested in finding good, solid, Christian suspense and thrillers! Also have a Family Christian store nearby where I sometimes shop. Thank you for this opportunity!!
PS I like Dee Henderson’s novels, also Lynette Eason and Creston Mapes. Have not yet read any of Mr. James’ books.
I’m not too big on reading Crime and Thrillers, but I do enjoy a good suspense. I’ve never heard of Steven James, but now would be a good time to check him out on Goodreads.
I did enjoy Ted Dekker’s psychological suspense novel, “Eyes Wide Open,” though. Not too sure if these two books would be placed in the same genre lol.

I don’t usually read suspense/thriller books, nor have I read any by Steven James. I never flat out say no to a book, so would be interested in giving it a try. The book I am currently reading is “Moms’ Night Out”. 🙂
I’ve never read any of his books before. However, this past summer, I did read Critical Pursuit (Critical Pursuit #1) and Visible Threat (Critical Pursuit #2) by Janice Cantore. Both books were so interesting! She’s a former police officer, so she knows her stuff!
I have read several of Ted Dekker’s books, some of which are speculative fiction or suspense. I have read The Quest for Celestia by Steven James. I have several of his Patrick Bowers series but haven’t read them yet.
I reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and not the frenzy and commercialism of it all. On how much my family means to me and how I may be able to help others that are less blessed than I am.
While I have not read any books by this author including Checkmate: The Bowers Files (Bowers Files #7) by Steven James this book has intrigued me. I do not feel like I am missing out by not reading books 1-6 first . The recemmendations on this come very high . I would like to read all books in this series 1-7. I know I wouldn’t be able to put them down.
