Building a healthy marriage is not as simple as it might seem and it requires a lot of work. It is important to know that putting in the time and energy is well worth it. Today, Keeli from Love Hope Adventure shares a few things you can do to help you grow closer as a couple and build a healthier marriage.

1. Be Nice to One Another

It seems like it should be so easy to be nice to your spouse. A lot of people struggle with this in marriage….or any close relationship for that matter.

How many times have you gotten into a bad mood and taken it out on your husband…wife…kids…? I know I do that on a regular basis. It is so easy to let out your frustrations on someone else.

When you and your spouse fight, it makes being nice to each other a more difficult task. In the heat of the moment, your natural tendency is to try and wound them.

Anytime that you are unkind to your spouse, you hurt them and cause a divide to come between you. It makes it easier for them to retaliate. This leads to a vicious cycle of hurting one another.

Choosing to be nice, even when you don’t feel like or when it isn’t deserved, is important for a healthy marriage.

2. Develop a Team Mindset

In marriage, you wind up fighting against one another instead of for one another. Remember, you are not supposed to go head to head with them…you are on the same team. What good does it do you to tear other teammates apart?

It is so important that you develop a mindset of unity within your spouse. You and your spouse need to figure out what the problem is and solve it together.

Working together accomplishes so many things in your marriage. As a team, you will find that you:

  • Get more done
  • Resolve fights quickly
  • Build unity
  • Rely on each other more

This is only a few of the benefits that you will experience when you see you and your spouse as teammates, not opponents.

3. Kiss Each Other Goodbye

Kissing your spouse when you say goodbye, has great benefits to your marriage. There are many reasons why this action can help you have a healthier relationship.

General love and care can be conveyed through a simple peck. Not only that, it is hard to stay mad at someone for very long if you give them a kiss throughout the day. If you are kissing every time you leave each other, then your anger will go away much more quickly.

Constantly showing your affection to your spouse allows you to go deeper in your relationship. Ultimately, you will become more intimate with them and have a better marriage.

Building a strong, healthy relationship takes time and effort. Putting in the time is worth it!
