Stephanie Cameron sent me a copy of her book Ella Mae in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to read this book. My kids wont give it up today. I snapped this picture in the car outside the mailbox and seconds latter my 6 year old was begging me to pass it back. When we got home she ran to her big sister who is 9, and asked her to read it to her. Then the “sharing” began.

The book found it’s way into multiple hiding spots, under pillows at night, and propped up on knees. My girls LOVE this book. I don’t think I can possibly top that in writing a review. They are the target market after all. But here is what I thought as a mom (after I finally found it tucked away, hidden on the windowsill behind the couch while the girls were at school).

As a mom I love the joy that is expressed by Ella Mae, the fact that she did not deserve the cruelness but received it anyway. Cameron does a beautiful job through words and pictures of the portraying how words and actions hurt but that they do not win. Kindness wins. The love of God’s kindness can change an entire culture of cruelty and bullying. There are questions in the back that you can walk through with your child as well as verses on how and why to show the love of God to those who are hurting.

Now that I’ve had a chance to get my hands on the book I have a surprise for the girls when they get home. The book comes with a free audio book digital download. Now they won’t have to argue over whose turn it is, one can read while one listens. Thank you Stephanie Cameron for solving that problem for me.

I highly recommend this book and I believe it’s rather clear my girls do as well. Add it to your library today.
