Messy Beautiful Love (Review and Giveaway)

I received the book Messy Beautiful Love: Hope and Redemption for Real-Life Marriages through Family Christian Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

I have this terrible habit during deployments. When couples fight in front of me, in my office or in their homes, I take the husband’s side. I sympathize and defend them because I miss mine so much. I come to their defense because I can’t help but think of all the ways I would spoil my husband if he were home. And then he comes home, the honeymoon ends, and I’m sympathizing with the wives.

Tripping over his army gear while he is here can frustrate me but it’s the first thing I miss when he leaves. We’ve all been there haven’t we?

Messy Beautiful Love: Hope and Redemption for Real-Life Marriages is a gentle reminder to not take for granted our husbands while they are with us. It is an example of love that is not perfect but is committed.

My husband is my best friend and I plan on keeping it that way. My favorite chapter in this book was “Seize the Day and Capture the Joy”. While the book was not written with military spouses in mind this chapter should resonate with us. Each moment we have with our soldier is so very precious and I don’t want to fill it with bickering, nagging, or ingratitude. Rather, I want to spend every moment I have with my best friend sharing our joys, frustrations, and mess in ways that strengthen our marriage not tear it down.
