Learning to Mend and Resting in God

Book Giveaway of Tattered and Mended: The Art of Healing the Wounded Soul

Mending is a process. It hurts, it takes time, but it is necessary. We all have our own stories and I would love to hear yours. I’ve shared a few of mine already on this blog from my brokenness over my daughter’s cancer and how learning to finally grieve brought me to a new found faith. I also shared how I burned out from ministry and took a forced sabbatical to refresh and refocus. I’m still learning to tend to my own tattered soul rather then feel the need to always put my big girl panties on and push forward.

In Psalm 139:17-18 we learn that God’s thoughts outnumber the grains of sand. By learning to rest in the revelation He has given us we can find comfort. We rejoice in the fact that He hears us, sees us, and cares for us at our best and our worst. Hiding God’s word in our heart means that we learn, memorize and apply scripture to our lives. When my husband first deployed I was terrified of living alone. Sleep did not come easily. So I wrote Bible verses on post it notes and index cards and stacked them on my night stand. Psalms 4:8 got me through many nights.

Taking care of ourselves is so important. Recognizing our own hurts and grieving our losses is essential to find healing. We can do this through art, relaxation, hobbies, and finding our quiet places.

One of the ways I have recently discovered is through Holy Yoga. Once a week a group of moms meet at our church and meditate on God’s word while doing Yoga. It was such a joy to join them. I look forward to doing it more and adding Yoga into my weekly routine as a way to refresh and rejuvenate.

In her new book Tattered and Mended: The Art of Healing the Wounded Soul, Cynthia Ruchti refers to the artistic beauty of restoration. In a few weeks I will be sharing with you a project I have found to turn broken jagged edges into beauty. For now I am giving away a copy of Tattered and Mended so you can join me in this journey. It is a beautiful book filled with healing words. I can’t wait to give you my full review next friday.

  1. I am glad to hear you were able to connect with other moms through yoga. It’s important to have support from others like that.
