Last night a thought hit me, a realization I had come full circle. For the life of me, I can’t remember it now. I need to keep a notebook by my bed, and maybe one in the shower. It seems as though those are the two places I have these epiphanies.

I was up until 2 a.m. listening to Richard Rohr’s Universal Christ and playing a game on my phone, trying to silence the thoughts. That was when this epiphany hit me, and I fell asleep. Everything I’d been thinking suddenly made sense, but now I’ve lost it.

Before I turned on Richard Rohr, I’d been listening to one of David Sedaris’ diaries. It occurred to me that I should be keeping a journal as well. After all, it is 2020, and I’ve lost track of how long we’ve been in lockdown due to Ms. Rona (the kids’ endearing name for COVID).

Spring Break started sometime in March and never ended.

Crisis school was a nightmare. Tears daily. Yet they managed to pull through, and K even got straight As. I now owe her $50.

There are no more elementary children in my house. They’ll be entering 6th, 8th, and 10th grade as e-learners whenever school does start back up. It looks like teachers in Florida will be suing the state. I can’t keep up.

For now, we are getting ready. The kids have reorganized their rooms with school areas set up in each. They each took one of my grandmother’s old chairs and painted and reupholstered it to be their unique desk chair.

We’re working on the side room, which we now call the Art Room. I have an Art Room, how fun is that!

The girls have painted three of the four chairs in the Art Room (that’s just fun to write), different colors each. One more to go, and then we will paint the table and hutch white. It’s quickly becoming my favorite room in the house.

Once John is up and feeling better (we’re on day eight waiting on his COVID test to come back), we have lots of plans for the rest of the house. Since we can’t leave it we might as well work on it. This year has definitely proven interesting despite the fact we never leave the house.

I’m going to try to write daily, we will see. For now, I’m going to go. Tons of work to do, clients to write for, and cleaning (got to kill Ms. Rona). But before all that, I’m writing letters.

Letter writing. I’m doing two a day. What do you write in letters? Do you say what you’ve been doing, which is basically never stepping outside the house, or ask what they have been doing, which is hopefully a lot of the same?
